In a highly anticipated international friendly at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco, Ghana faced a disappointing 2-1 defeat against their arch-rivals Nigeria on Friday.

Right from the outset, Nigeria asserted dominance, applying pressure on the Black Stars.

Ghana’s goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, showcased his skills with an early remarkable save, but Nigeria eventually found the breakthrough with a penalty converted by Cyriel Dessers just before halftime.

Despite Ghana’s efforts to level the score, Antoine Semenyo squandered a crucial opportunity for the Black Stars.

In the second half, coach Otto Addo made tactical adjustments, leading to improved control and chances for Ghana. However, their momentum was interrupted by Jerome Opoku’s contentious red card for an alleged elbow, sparking vehement protests from Addo and Opoku.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Ghana maintained possession, but Nigeria capitalized on a swift counterattack, sealing the victory with a clinical finish from Ademola Lookman.

Nevertheless, Ghana managed to salvage some dignity with a late penalty converted by captain Jordan Ayew.

Looking ahead, Ghana aims to build on the positives from the match as they prepare for their upcoming friendly against Uganda.

The win marks Nigeria’s first triumph over Ghana in 18 years, celebrated jubilantly at the final whistle.

Next up, the Super Eagles will take on Mali in four days, while Ghana will face Uganda in their subsequent fixture.
