Following a tense moment between brothers Nico and Iñaki Williams during their recent La Liga match against Deportivo Alavés, Nico Williams has shared an intriguing family incident that ensued.
The incident, which occurred on March 16 at San Mamés, garnered significant attention from fans and even caught the eye of the brothers’ mother, who maintains a close connection with the club.
In an interview with Diario AS, Nico disclosed that their mother, upon seeing images of the incident from Ghana, took it upon herself to intervene and mediate between her sons.
“Even though she is in Ghana, she found out about it and called us. She advised us not to argue, especially not on the field. But, well, these things happen in football,” Nico remarked.
“We continued discussing it in the locker room, but by the time we got home, it was already water under the bridge,” he added.
Despite the on-field disagreement, the Williams brothers, both instrumental in Athletic Bilbao’s victory that night, have been commended for their professionalism in handling the situation.
