Ghana’s Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has acknowledged that his team has a significant amount of work ahead if they aim to perform well in future games, following their inability to secure victories in the March friendlies.

The Black Stars suffered a 2-1 loss against Nigeria last Friday, followed by a 2-2 draw against Uganda on Tuesday, leaving them without a win under Otto Addo’s management in his second tenure with the team.

Reflecting on the draw against Uganda, Addo commented, “It was a good learning experience today. There were some positives, but overall, our performance was not satisfactory. Despite missing several key players, we could have performed better, especially in creating scoring opportunities and finishing chances under pressure.”

He emphasized the need for improvement in various aspects of their game, particularly in the final third of the pitch. “We need to work on creating more chances and improving our finishing. The quality of football displayed was not up to the mark, and we must strive to do better,” Addo stated.

Acknowledging the team’s recent struggles, Addo highlighted that the process of improvement is ongoing. “The performances in January were not satisfactory before my arrival, so it’s evident that there’s work to be done. It’s a continuous process of development,” he explained.

Looking ahead, Ghana faces crucial World Cup qualifiers, starting with an away match against Mali, followed by a significant fixture against the Central African Republic at home just three days later.

Currently, Ghana sits in third place in Group I, with three points from two matches, having secured one victory and suffered one defeat. These upcoming qualifiers present an opportunity for the team to climb the standings and enhance their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As the team prepares for these crucial encounters, Addo and his coaching staff will focus on addressing the areas of improvement identified during the friendlies, aiming to bolster the team’s performance and secure positive results in the upcoming matches.
