Ghana coach Otto Addo believes Black Stars could’ve done better against Uganda

Otto Addo, the head coach of the Black Stars, expressed his disappointment following Ghana’s 2-2 draw against Uganda in their final friendly match at the Stade de Marrakesh.

Despite taking the lead twice through goals from Jerome Opoku and Jordan Ayew in the first half, Ghana failed to secure a victory as Uganda clawed back with goals from Steven Mukwala and Muhammad Shaban.

Reflecting on the game, Addo voiced his frustration with his team’s performance, particularly after their 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in the previous friendly match.

“We have to get over it. There was a good learning today, there were some good parts but…to play 2-2 against Uganda, we expect more,” said the 43-year-old coach.

“We could have done better…in all, the football we played was not good enough. We should have created more chances,” he added, highlighting areas for improvement.

With the friendly matches concluded, Ghana now shifts its focus to the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers scheduled against Mali and the Central African Republic in June later this year.

The draw against Uganda serves as a valuable learning experience for the Black Stars as they prepare for the crucial qualifiers ahead.

Addo and his coaching staff will analyze the team’s performance and work on strategies to enhance their gameplay and efficiency in scoring goals.

The disappointment of the draw will serve as motivation for the players to strive for better results in future matches.

Despite the setbacks, Addo remains optimistic about Ghana’s prospects in the upcoming qualifiers and emphasizes the importance of learning from each game.

The Black Stars will use the lessons learned from the friendly matches to fine-tune their tactics and improve their overall performance on the field.

As they gear up for the qualifiers, Addo will focus on instilling confidence and unity within the team to ensure they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.

The draw against Uganda highlights the need for consistency and resilience in the Black Stars’ approach to matches, especially against tough opponents.
