Mohamed Diomande, a standout graduate of Ghana’s prestigious Right to Dream Academy, has decided to represent Ivory Coast on the international stage, despite interest from Ghana.
Diomande, who developed his football skills within Ghana’s system, had been called up by Ghana’s head coach Otto Addo for international friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda in March.
However, the talented 22-year-old midfielder has chosen to honor his parental heritage by pledging allegiance to Ivory Coast.
Currently playing for Scottish Premiership side Rangers, Diomande has demonstrated significant promise, attracting attention from both Ghanaian and Ivorian national team selectors. Though he considered joining the Black Stars, Diomande aims to bolster the Elephants’ efforts in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ivory Coast, the reigning African champions, are preparing to face Gabon and Kenya on June 7 and 11 in crucial matches.
Leading Group F with six points, the Elephants are focused on maintaining their top position with strong performances in these fixtures.
