In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ghana’s legislature, Parliament has announced the first-ever Democracy Cup, featuring a high-stakes match between historic rivals Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
This landmark event will take place on Friday, July 5, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The celebration will kick off with a preliminary match between Members of Parliament and former Black Stars players. The climax of the event will see Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak battle for the prestigious Democracy Cup.
The winner of this match will earn the opportunity to compete against the United States-based club, DC United, in Washington.
Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, highlighted the importance of this event, stating, “Due to the commendable efforts of this Parliament, several partners and stakeholders have supported the establishment of the Democracy Cup to enhance our 30th anniversary celebrations of the 1992 Constitution and the Fourth Republic Parliament.”
