English lower side Darlington FC and Ghanaian striker Akwasi Asante have mutually agreed to terminate his contract.
Asante, 32, joined the Quakers in 2023 after being released by Chesterfield. However, his tenure at Darlington was hampered by recurrent injuries, limiting him to just nine appearances.
Following discussions, both the club and Asante decided to end the contract, pending approval from the FA and National League.
“We would like to thank Akwasi for his service with us, and wish him all the best in the future,” the club stated.
Asante began his professional career at Birmingham City in 2008, making his Europa League debut in 2011. He also had loan spells at Northampton and Shrewsbury, and later played for Kidderminster, Solihull, Tamworth, Chester, and Chesterfield.
He briefly played for Grimsby, where he was a teammate of former Darlington manager Josh Gowling. Asante achieved promotion from the National League North with Solihull and helped Chesterfield reach the National League playoffs. Throughout his career, he has scored over 100 goals, including a hat-trick against Darlington for Chester in 2018.
