Otto Addo, the newly appointed coach of Ghana’s Black Stars, is determined to rejuvenate the team’s confidence as they gear up for pivotal World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR).

The former Borussia Dortmund talent coach, now at the helm for his second stint, has introduced a blend of youthful talents into his squad, emphasizing his commitment to nurturing young players.

In a bold move, Addo omitted Ghana captain Andre Ayew from the squad, signaling his intention to prioritize the development of emerging talents and foster a fearless approach to the game.

“I want to bring back the joy with the ball, create a culture. Not to be fearful when you have the ball. I know that there is high demands on the players and it is difficult times. There is a lot of pressure on the players, but I want to take the pressure away, allow them to do mistakes because this is the only way on long term that we can give them the confidence to play what they can,” he said.

With a focus on cultivating a winning culture through meticulous preparation and coaching, Addo aims to lay the foundation for a formidable Ghanaian national team, leveraging the expertise of his coaching staff.

“It’s my job to bring in a culture, with good habits, good preparation. To prepare them well with my coaching staff . Of course good games don’t just come like this. It comes with good preparation. With my staff’s ideas on the long term we can create a very good Ghanaian national team.”

The squad is set to commence their training camp on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Legon Stadium, embarking on a six-day preparation before the crucial fixtures in Mali and back home in Kumasi against the CAR.

With Ghana currently occupying fourth place in Group I, these upcoming matches are pivotal in their quest for World Cup qualification, with Comoros, Mali, and Madagascar leading the group standings.
