Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has capped off a remarkable season by being named the best player of the year in the Europa League.

The Gabonese international, who plays as a forward for Olympique de Marseille (OM), received this prestigious award on Friday, further solidifying his status as one of Europe’s top footballers.

The official Europa League account announced Aubameyang’s accolade, highlighting his instrumental role in OM’s deep run in the competition.

At 34 years old, Aubameyang delivered an unforgettable season for both himself and Marseille supporters, despite the team’s disappointment of finishing eighth in Ligue 1.

Aubameyang’s prowess in front of goal was on full display as he led Marseille to the Europa League semi-finals. He scored 10 goals in 11 matches, becoming the competition’s all-time top scorer with 34 goals, surpassing Radamel Falcao’s previous record of 30 goals.

This season, he amassed a total of 41 goal contributions (30 goals and 11 assists) in 51 matches across all competitions for OM.

Reflecting on his extraordinary achievements, Aubameyang said, “It’s an honour to be recognised for my efforts this season. The support from my teammates and the fans has been incredible. This award is as much theirs as it is mine.”

Aubameyang’s season statistics are a testament to his exceptional performance since joining OM:

  • 41 goal contributions in 51 matches
  • 30 goals scored
  • 11 assists
  • 11 goals in 10 Europa League matches

His accolades do not stop there. Aubameyang was also named the best African player in Ligue 1 and earned a spot in the league’s team of the season.

His impact on the field has been profound, and his leadership and experience have been invaluable to Marseille.

In a year marked by numerous highlights, Aubameyang’s crowning achievement came with the Europa League Player of the Year award.

His journey from Barcelona to becoming a key figure at Marseille has been nothing short of spectacular, inspiring both his teammates and fans alike.
