Hearts of Oak head coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, has set his sights on winning the Ghana Premier League title next season after a disappointing 14th place finish in the 2023-2024 season.
Ouattara’s statement comes despite the Phobians finishing two places lower than they did in the previous season, and a significant gap between them and league champions FC Samartex 1996. However, he is confident that changes to the team will lead to a turnaround in fortunes.
“Our recruitment, we are coming. We will change some things, we will change so many things and next season, we are playing for the league. We are not coming to play for the low end of the league,” Ouattara said.
The Ivorian coach replaced Matinus Koopman as head coach midway through the season, taking over from interim coach Bashiru Abdul. He expressed his displeasure at the team’s campaign, but is determined to make a better impact next season.
Ouattara’s comments come after Hearts of Oak beat Bechem United 3-2 on the final day of competition to avoid relegation. Despite the win, he believes that there is more to come from his team and is looking forward to making amends next season.
The Ghana Premier League is set to kick off again soon, with Ouattara’s team determined to make a stronger showing this time around.
