Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has praised Asante Kotoko’s impressive performance against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the inaugural Democracy Cup on Wednesday night.
The Porcupine Warriors emerged victorious, securing a 2-1 win and claiming the first-ever Democracy Cup.
The match was held to celebrate 30 years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana and has secured Kotoko a ticket to face Major League Soccer side DC United in the United States.
The visitors took the lead through Justice Blay’s penalty before Hearts of Oak equalized with a header from new signing Asamoah Boateng Afriyie. Kotoko regained the lead when Peter Amidu capitalized on a defensive error to secure the win.
Badu, who was speaking to the media after the game, heaped praise on Kotoko’s performance, particularly in the first half.
“For the past two years, this is the most exciting Kotoko-Hearts game I have watched. In terms of passing, aggressiveness and composure, I think everything was on point. Kotoko played well especially in the first half. The likes of Emmanuel Antwi, Samba, Blay and others took control in the middle.”
Kotoko and Hearts of Oak will continue their preparations for the new season as they aim to make an impact following a disappointing performance last term.
