English-born Ghanaian defender Kelvin Abrefa has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract with Reading FC, committing to the club until the summer of 2026.
The 20-year-old, who returned to pre-season training at Bearwood, has been a key player for the Royals and will now remain at the club for an impressive nine years.
Abrefa’s journey with Reading began in 2017 when he joined the club’s under-12 team, and he has since become an integral part of the team.
Head of Football Operations, Mark Bowen, expressed his delight at securing Abrefa’s future: “We’re delighted to secure Kelvin to a new two-year contract. There was, understandably, plenty of external interest in him so we’re very happy that Kelvin’s chosen to continue his development as a Reading Player.”
Last season, Abrefa balanced regular U21 football with significant contributions to the first team. He played in the Carabao Cup and was part of Reading’s historic 9-0 victory over Exeter in September.
Additionally, he stepped up to start in crucial league matches, displaying his versatility and importance to the team.
