Hearts of Oak’s captain and defender, Kofi Agbesimah, has stunned the Ghanaian football fraternity by announcing his departure from the club, despite having one year remaining on his initial two-year deal.

The 27-year-old defender, who joined Hearts of Oak from Bechem United last summer, has cited undisclosed issues within the club as the reason for his dissatisfaction.

Agbesimah, who was a key player for the Phobians during the 2023/24 campaign, featuring in 30 league matches and scoring one goal, has expressed his unhappiness with the situation at the club.

“I’m not happy at Hearts of Oak. I want to leave. When Hearts signed me, If you look at how they hyped me and all that, I wanted to do something that would have made them very happy,” he told Kessben Sports.

However, Agbesimah refused to elaborate on the specific reasons behind his decision, stating that “certain things can happen which is very common in football, so that’s why I want to leave.”

His departure is a significant setback for Hearts of Oak, who will need to find a replacement for their experienced and influential captain.
