Ludogorets forward Bernard Tekpetey has successfully undergone surgery in Austria following a tibia fracture sustained during a UEFA Champions League qualifier against Qarabag.
The 26-year-old was injured in a tough encounter with Qarabag defender Kevin Medina Rentería, which forced him to leave the field in the 61st minute. Brazilian attacker Rick replaced Tekpetey.
The surgery was conducted by the esteemed Dr. Paul Stampfl in Vienna. Tekpetey will remain under observation there before returning to Razgrad to begin his rehabilitation. Although he is expected to be sidelined for several months, Tekpetey remains focused on a speedy recovery.
In the first leg of the tie, Ludogorets achieved a 2-1 victory at the Tofig Bahramov Stadium in Baku, with goals from Dinis Almeida and Caio. Qarabag’s Juninho scored a consolation goal, and Caio received a red card towards the end of the match. The second leg is scheduled for August 13th.
