Abdul Mumin’s unforgettable night at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium

That’s how bad things can go for anyone in life. Life isn’t bed of roses indeed. Dreamchasers face a lot of predicaments before they can reach their dreams.

Every kid dreams of playing for the senior national team. The dream is achieved when you get the opportunity as it normally comes with a price too.

The stadium was almost filled to its fullest capacity with thousands of fans outside trying to catch a glimpse of their superstars they watch every weekend on their screens.

Rayo Valecano’s Abdul Mumin was given a rare start at the heart of Ghana’s defence alongside Mohammed Salisu of AS Monaco. Ghana’s preferred center back pairing since the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar has been Salisu and Djiku. Alexander Djiku missed the September international break due to injury he sustained playing for Fernabahce.

Otto Addo’s next choice was Abdul Mumin who has showed so many glimpses in Spanish Laliga for Madrid-based Rayo Vallecano.

The former Norsdjaelland and Guimaeres center back has played every single minute of Rayo’s Three Laliga games in the current season albeit they’re yet to win a match. He was very good against the in-form Barcelona. That performance could convince anyone to start him for a national team.

Mumin under Oseikrom’s sunset had an unforgettable second half against Angola.

Angola’s attacking trio of Mabulu, Dala and Nteka were not as devastating as they were expected even though tactically, they were discipline.

Abdul Mumin’s passes were not what Otto Addo expected as it at times failed to locate his mates. His tackling was suspect making supporters wondering what exactly was wrong. His worst moment came when Zito Luvumbo of Cagliari comfortably twisted and turned Alidu Seidu in Ghana’s box. Zito’s low cross did not meet any of his mates so Mumin was supposed to clear it. His clearance was so week that the ball fell into Milson’s path and he calmly slotted home the ball to secure an incredible win for Angola.

Abdul Mumin, 26, must be forgiven as it sometimes happen that way. Things will not go your way as planned. Mistakes are just part of the game and even the greats make it always.

Abdul Mumin was so excited to get his first competitive start for Ghana but it turned out to be an unforgettable one. He is easily Otto Addo’s third choice center back as he will be part of the Black Stars for a long time.

It’s all up to Otto Addo to work on his mentality as he will face very broken. The head coach quickly defended Mumin in the post match conference.

“It was unluck for Mumin, but we made some errors even before that situation. But the pitch was not good, and we can’t overlook that”, Otto Addo said.
