Ghana head coach Otto Addo has expressed frustration over the Black Stars’ failure to learn from their previous match against Angola, following their 1-1 draw with Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

After a 1-0 defeat to Angola in their opening match at the Baba Yara Stadium last Thursday, Ghana was eager to secure their first win of the qualifiers against Niger.

The Black Stars took the lead with Alidu Seidu’s deflected shot in the 44th minute, but Niger equalized in the 80th minute through Oumar Sako, resulting in a 1-1 draw at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.

In his post-match comments, Addo expressed his disappointment: “We are not allowing too cheap goals. Like I said, I am disappointed; we didn’t learn the lessons from the first game. Now it’s a set piece, we are all back, we need to defend this better, this is for sure and like I said, I am really disappointed. But surely it’s still in our own hands. We have the same point as Niger and now we have to wait. Angola will play tonight against Sudan. If Sudan wins, they will have six points, Angola will have three. If Angola wins, they will have six points, Sudan will have three. If they draw, Angola will have four points, and Sudan will have four.”

With the Black Stars currently in 3rd place in Group F, they will need to secure their first win when they face Sudan in a crucial doubleheader in October.

Angola leads the group with six points, followed by Sudan with three. Ghana and Niger are tied with one point each, making the upcoming fixtures critical for their qualification hopes.
