Aspiring Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Pius Enam Hadzide, has pledged to assist his constituents in traveling to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, should he be elected to office.
The CEO of the National Youth Authority and candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) made this bold promise while campaigning ahead of the December elections.
Hadzide, who was previously involved in the Australian visa scandal, acknowledged his past efforts in facilitating travel for international sports competitions. He confidently stated his intention to do the same for his constituents if given the mandate.
“Nananom, do you know something? If you’re from Ghana and flying to Australia, it’s an 18-hour flight, and people went [to Australia] through me,” Hadzide told a crowd during his campaign in Asuogyaman.
“The next World Cup, which will be played in 2026, will be in America. It will take just seven hours to get there. If you want your children to go to America to work and bring money to this community, vote for me. No matter where you are from in this constituency, I will facilitate your travel if I become your MP,” he added.
Hadzide’s remarks have sparked significant discussion, with many curious about how he intends to follow through on such a promise.
Meanwhile, on the pitch, the Black Stars are currently performing well in the World Cup qualifiers. They are joint-top of Group I after securing back-to-back victories against Mali and the Central African Republic in June.
