Kurt Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has admitted that all is not well with the Black Stars following their 2-1 defeat to Niger on Monday in the final match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Okraku reflected on the disappointing turn of events, acknowledging the current struggles of the national team.
“From the highest heights of world football on March 29, 2022, to the lowest ebb of AFCON qualifying matches, my heart bleeds. This is definitely not what we wanted or bargained for. At this point, only cool heads can prevail. As leaders of the sport, we will stay united, be honest with ourselves, and address this issue,” Okraku shared on Facebook.
The GFA President further called for unity and collective effort to restore the Black Stars to their former glory, emphasizing that the road to recovery will require patience and hard work.
“The road to full recovery after normalization is bumpy and rough, but our collective efforts and patience will lead us to victory. Ghana, our beloved country, will rise. As a Black Stars fan and as the leader, I share in your pain. Together, we will overcome this setback. It shall be well,” Okraku assured fans.
Ghana’s failure to secure a victory in the 2025 AFCON qualification campaign left them at the bottom of Group F, eliminating them from contention for the tournament in Morocco.
