“Bringing in a new technical team will be a disaster for the Black Stars” – Laryea Kingston backs Otto Addo

Former Ghana U-17 coach Laryea Kingston has voiced strong support for Black Stars coach Otto Addo, urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to resist calls for a leadership change despite the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In an interview with Flashscore, Kingston cautioned against making hasty decisions, warning that replacing Addo and the technical team now could lead to greater challenges for the national team.

“If we change the coach and the technical team and bring in new faces, it will be a disaster,” Kingston stated. “I think we should allow him to at least finish the World Cup qualifiers. Who knows? Maybe he can secure qualification. After that, we can make a decision as a country. He deserves another opportunity.”

Kingston’s remarks come amid widespread discontent over Ghana’s poor performance in the AFCON qualifiers, where the Black Stars failed to secure a single victory, finishing bottom of Group F with just three points from six games.

The disappointing campaign has sparked calls for significant changes in the team’s management and technical setup.

The Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council is set to convene on Wednesday to assess the team’s performance and deliberate on the next steps for the Black Stars.

Kingston’s appeal highlights a divide in opinions on whether the team needs continuity or a fresh start as they turn their focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
