Ghanaian international Thomas Partey delivered an outstanding performance in midfield as Arsenal cruised to a resounding 5-1 victory over Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Black Stars midfielder played the entire 90 minutes, dictating the tempo and contributing significantly to a dominant display that underlined Arsenal’s intent in Europe.

Arsenal wasted no time taking control, opening the scoring in the 7th minute. Jurrien Timber’s precise cross found Gabriel Martinelli, who slotted home at the far post. The Gunners doubled their lead midway through the first half, with Partey heavily involved. His incisive pass initiated a move that saw Bukayo Saka deliver a perfect assist for Kai Havertz to finish clinically.

Sporting CP, who were without their coach Rúben Amorim, found it difficult to withstand Arsenal’s relentless pressure. The visitors extended their lead before halftime when Declan Rice delivered a pinpoint corner that Gabriel Magalhães headed powerfully into the net, making it 3-0.

The Portuguese side briefly threatened a comeback early in the second half. Gonçalo Inácio capitalized on a set-piece, flicking a header past David Raya to reduce the deficit. However, Arsenal swiftly extinguished any hopes of a revival. A foul on Martin Ødegaard in the box earned the Gunners a penalty, which Bukayo Saka confidently converted to restore their three-goal advantage.

The emphatic win was sealed in the 82nd minute. Substitute Mikel Merino unleashed a long-range strike that was parried by goalkeeper Franco Israel, but Leandro Trossard reacted quickly to head in the rebound.

This 5-1 triumph marked Arsenal’s first away victory in this season’s Champions League and showcased their growing confidence under Mikel Arteta. Partey’s commanding presence in midfield was instrumental in the team’s fluid and attacking play, as they climbed up the group standings with authority.
