Asante Kotoko SC has issued a strong statement condemning the violent incidents that marred their Ghana Premier League Matchweek 19 fixture against Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Kronmansah Park.

In their official communication, the club revealed that from the moment of their arrival at the stadium, their players and officials were subjected to hostility, including confrontations from sections of the home supporters. Despite the provocations, the team proceeded with the match in the spirit of sportsmanship.

However, the situation worsened during the game, with missiles thrown at Kotoko’s bench on multiple occasions, creating a dangerous environment. The Head of Media suffered a severe ear injury after being struck by an object, while goalkeeper Mohammed Camara was physically attacked by fans who invaded the pitch.

Adding to the tragedy, a Kotoko supporter who traveled from Kumasi to support the team succumbed to injuries sustained during the violence. This loss of life has deeply affected the Asante Kotoko fraternity, with the club extending condolences to the bereaved family and friends.

The violence also caused significant damage to club property, including laptops, communication devices, and audio-visual equipment, which were destroyed in the chaos. These incidents have sparked calls from the club for urgent improvements to security measures at league venues.

Despite the grave security breaches, Asante Kotoko completed the game, reaffirming their commitment to fair play and the integrity of the competition. However, the club described the recurring acts of hooliganism as deeply troubling and a threat to players, officials, media personnel, and fans.

The management of Asante Kotoko has pledged to fully cooperate with the Ghana Football Association in investigations and has urged swift action to be taken against the perpetrators. They also called on all stakeholders to ensure the safety of teams, officials, and supporters moving forward.

This unfortunate incident has reignited concerns about the safety of football venues in Ghana and the need for stronger measures to combat violence in the sport.
