“Why is Abedi Pele not coming around to Ghana’s football?” Sulley Muntari quizzes

Abedi Pele unquestionably remains the GOAT of Ghanaian football. He is one of the best African footballers ever after showcasing his talent in the 1990s in the famous white and blue jersey of the French side Olympique Marseille.

The former Black Stars skipper is well-known the world over after enjoying his football in Africa, Asia and Europe. The legendary Abedi Pele has immense experience in football – there are no two ways about that.

Abedi Ayew is the owner and the coach of Nania FC in the Access Bank Division One League, which keeps him fit and gets him the excitement he craves in football.

Abedi Pele was born simply to play football after showing that he has the brain and the knowledge to play, manage and develop young ones.

With all these blessings and experience, why has Abedi Pele, the father of Andre, Jordan and Ibrahim Ayew never gotten closer to any of our national teams? Why has Abedi Pele not gotten closer to our domestic league as well?

Sulley Muntari has been wondering, I have been wondering, and I believe millions of Ghanaians have also been wondering why the great Abedi Pele is not part of the decision-makers of the Black Stars.

“Let’s ask ourselves, where is Abedi Pele? Why isn’t Abedi coming around? Why is Tony Yeboah not coming around? “When I was in the national team when I heard that Abedi Pele was in the stands, my football changed. Not that after the game I was gonna see him, but his presence alone. If he is there, my strength doubles up.

When Abedi Pele is in the system, you put him in the right place. I’m not talking about coaching,” Muntari said.

Tony Yeboah, the man “Yegoala” as he is affectionately known by Eintracht Frankfurt and Leeds United fans because of his knack for scoring goals, why has such a man been sidelined in our football?

Tony Yeboah won two top-scorer awards in the German Bundesliga for Frankfurt. Tony Yeboah became a fan favourite at Ellan Road.

This is a man who began his playing career in Ghana and made it to the upper echelons of world football. Tony Yeboah played a very crucial role in the Black Stars during his playing days.

Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah’s absence from Ghana football is very surprising because they live in Ghana.

Is it because of the unending corruption at the Ghana Football Association? Is it because of the nepotism at the GFA?

The Ghana Football Association, led by Kurt Okraku, believes that he and his administration have the skills and the knowledge to help Ghana football develop, but it is the biggest lie of the last decade. When you have experienced people like Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah, their experience will always be needed, so why has the Ghana Football Association not brought them on board and instead worked with naive, selfish and corrupt young men whose experience in football is just below the standard required?

Ghana’s football has been in a mess, and no one knows exactly when things will return to the level we want.

The Black Stars failed to qualify for the AFCON for the first time since 2004, and many consider it to be the all-time low of the team since the turn of the new millennium.

The biggest hyper and staunch supporter of the Ghana Premier League was murdered when Kotoko visited Nsoatre in week 19. The cruel killing of Pooley shows how horrible things are panning out in our football.

Everything shows that Ghana’s football needs the brains and knowledge of former players who played at the top level of European and domestic football.

Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah, Sammy Kuffuor, Sulley Muntari, Charles Taylor, Agyeman Badu, Asamoah Gyan, and Tony Baffoe, among so many legends, are all around and will welcome the opportunity to help the nation revive its football.

Imagine someone like Herbert Mensah, the man who revived Asante Kotoko, being made to handle the Ghana Premier League. It will be so invigorating to the clubs, players and fans when the Kumawu-born Herbert leads the GPL revival.

These legends should be brought on board because they know what it takes to taste success in football.
