USA-based attacker Joseph Paintsil has expressed frustration over his limited role in the Black Stars, stating that he deserves more consistent opportunities in the starting lineup.
Paintsil has often been at the center of debate among Ghanaian fans, many of whom believe he has not received the recognition he deserves. His omission from Ghana’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and his controversial substitution against Mozambique in the 2023 AFCON—despite being one of the standout performers in the first half—have fueled concerns about his treatment in the national team setup.
Speaking on BAC Sports Channel, the 27-year-old winger emphasized that he deserves more playing time for the senior national team.
“I think I should get a look in the national team, but it’s sometimes uncomfortable to be on the bench,” he said.
Paintsil had an outstanding debut season with LA Galaxy in 2024, scoring 14 goals and providing 8 assists to help the club win the MLS Cup. However, he is currently sidelined with a quadriceps injury, which is expected to keep him out for nearly two months.
His injury casts doubt over his availability for Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar later this month.
