”No one has banned Hearts of Oak and Kotoko from using their stadium” – GFA

The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, has dismissed claims that Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak have been banned from using their home venues.

Addressing concerns over the status of Baba Yara Stadium and the Legon Sports Stadium, Addo explained that inspections by the GFA Club Licensing Committee identified security-related issues that need to be addressed before the venues can host Ghana Premier League (GPL) matches.

“There have been concerns regarding some safety zones, which may require additional police personnel—perhaps 50 or more on both sides—to prevent supporters from accessing restricted areas. The key issue is the need to install a metal gate to secure the zone. We are working closely with the clubs and the Ministry of Sports to finalize security protocols,” Addo told Asempa FM.

He emphasized that the GFA is collaborating with the affected clubs, stadium management, and the Ministry of Sports to resolve the challenges as quickly as possible.

“The decision on whether to play at these venues this weekend is up to the clubs. No one has banned Hearts of Oak from using the Legon Stadium or the Accra Sports Stadium. Similarly, work is ongoing at Baba Yara Stadium to address the security zone gate issue. This is not about Kotoko and Hearts of Oak being forced out of their home grounds—we are simply ensuring the necessary safety measures are in place,” he added.

This clarification follows concerns after the GFA Club Licensing Committee deemed both venues unfit for GPL matches, prompting uncertainty about where Kotoko and Hearts of Oak will host their upcoming fixtures.
