Austria-born Ghanaian defender Kevin Danso has admitted that he never envisioned himself as a footballer while growing up, revealing that his childhood dream was to become an action movie star.
The Tottenham Hotspur defender shared that he was heavily inspired by martial arts legends Jackie Chan and Jean-Claude Van Damme and initially had no interest in football.
“To be honest, until I was about seven, I hated football,” Danso told Ghanaian musician Black Sherif in an interview. “I wanted to have a career in acting, especially in action movies. I was into karate and things like that. Even when my dad and brother watched football, I found it so boring.
“I preferred watching Jackie Chan, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and all those action stars. But then, one day, something just clicked, and I realized I actually liked the sport.
“I started off as a striker, and from the moment I began playing, I knew this was what I wanted to do. The rest, as they say, is history.”
Born in Voitsberg, Austria, to Ghanaian parents, Danso moved to England at the age of six and later joined MK Dons’ youth academy, where his football journey began.
