Bechem United’s Kofi Tompuo criticizes Hearts of Oak’s game plan after narrow victory

Bechem United playmaker Kofi Tompuo has taken a subtle swipe at Hearts of Oak, criticizing their tactical approach in Wednesday’s Ghana Premier League encounter.

Tompuo scored the decisive goal in the 52nd minute, securing a 1-0 victory for the Hunters at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

Speaking after the match, Tompuo did not hold back in his assessment of Hearts of Oak’s strategy, suggesting their reliance on long balls played into Bechem United’s hands.

“Their plan was to hit long balls at every opportunity. Conversely, we came to possess the ball, be expressive, and fluid. That is because our midfielders are very comfortable with the ball and can retain possession for long spells,” he stated.

Tompuo, who has now scored against both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko at home, also highlighted his team’s winning mentality, especially in big matches.

“Hearts of Oak is a big team, and everyone watches when you face them. It comes with expectations too. Already, every member of the team was determined to win the match, and once we get into that mood at home, we always win.”

Bechem United are currently one of the best-performing teams in the league, having recorded nine wins and two draws. They remain unbeaten at home, securing 29 out of their 36 points from their home games.

Wednesday’s victory moves the Hunters to fourth place on the league table, just four points behind leaders Bibiani Gold Stars.
