Ghanaian international Ernest Nuamah is facing an extended period on the sidelines after sustaining a serious cruciate ligament injury during Olympique Lyon’s Ligue 1 encounter with Lille on Saturday.

The 21-year-old winger suffered the setback just five minutes into the match following a ground duel with Lille defender Gabriel Gudmundsson. Nuamah came off worse in the challenge and was forced to leave the field early, with Ryan Cherki coming on as his replacement.

Although Lyon went on to secure a 2-1 victory, the win was overshadowed by the concerning injury to their promising young attacker.

Preliminary medical assessments indicate that Nuamah could be out of action for six to twelve months, depending on the extent of the damage and how he responds to treatment. A partial tear could see him return within 6 to 9 months through conservative rehabilitation, while a complete rupture requiring surgery could extend his recovery time to at least a year.

In some cases, full recovery from such an injury can take up to two years, especially if complications arise during the healing process.

Nuamah’s absence is a major blow not only to Lyon’s ambitions for the season but also to Ghana’s national team, where he has become an increasingly important figure thanks to his speed, creativity, and relentless work ethic.

As he begins the difficult journey toward recovery, support continues to pour in from fans, teammates, and the wider football community, all hoping for a strong and successful comeback from the talented winger.
