Kamaldeen Sulemana is set to return to second-tier football after Southampton were officially relegated from the English Premier League following a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, 6 April 2025 — with seven games still remaining in the season.
The Ghana international featured for the full 90 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but could do little to prevent the Saints from slipping to yet another loss that confirmed their demotion.
Southampton have endured a difficult campaign, rooted to the bottom of the league table since early November. Their struggles have been compounded by a poor run of form, having recorded just one win in their last 20 matches.
Despite the team’s woes, Sulemana has been one of the few bright sparks, making 19 league appearances and scoring once this season.
The 22-year-old winger joined Southampton in January 2023 from French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais, where he registered five goals and two assists in 34 league appearances. A product of Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy, Sulemana will now look to play a key role in helping Southampton rebuild and push for promotion in the Championship next season.
