Asante Kotoko have confirmed the appointment of Prince Yaw Owusu as the club’s new Assistant Coach, a move that signals a renewed focus on rebuilding and revitalising the technical structure of the Porcupine Warriors.
Owusu joins the club with over 20 years of coaching experience, having worked across Ghana, Sudan, and the United States. His résumé includes top roles at Medeama SC, Inter Allies, and Khartoum National Club. On the national front, he has served as assistant coach of Ghana’s U-17 team and later as head coach of the Ghana U-20 national team, the Black Satellites.
Beyond his tactical knowledge, Owusu is widely acclaimed for his strong track record in youth development, having played a key role in grooming players who later moved to elite European clubs such as AC Milan, Genoa, Sassuolo, and Fiorentina.
His appointment is part of a wider technical restructuring plan at Kotoko, aimed at restoring the club’s dominance both domestically and on the continental stage. Owusu will work closely with Abdul Karim Zito, who now serves as both interim head coach and newly appointed Technical Director.
This reshuffle follows the club’s decision to part ways with former head coach Prosper Ogum on Monday, after a string of poor results, including consecutive defeats in the Ghana Premier League.
Despite the recent setbacks, Kotoko remain in a strong position. They currently sit fourth in the league standings and have progressed to the semifinals of the FA Cup. The club is optimistic that the new technical appointments will inject fresh energy into the squad and boost their push for a domestic double.
