Former Asante Kotoko and Legon Cities coach Maxwell Konadu has expressed confidence in Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following the Black Stars’ impressive performances in the recent international break.
Ghana, four-time African champions, boosted their qualification hopes with two dominant wins—crushing Chad 5-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium and defeating Madagascar 3-0 in Morocco. These victories came during Matchdays 5 and 6 of the qualifiers and have pushed the Black Stars to the top of Group I with 15 points, with four matches remaining.
“That first win was everything. It brought back belief in the team. Now, we are confident that Ghana can qualify for the World Cup,” Konadu told Graphic Sports.
He also highlighted the importance of the widespread backing the team has received from the Ghana Football Association, government officials, and the fans. According to him, the collective support has played a crucial role in the team’s resurgence.
“When the players know the country is behind them, they will give everything. But if the spirit of the nation is missing, it doesn’t matter who you invite—they will struggle,” he explained.
The Black Stars will return to action in September when they face Chad and Mali, as they continue their mission to secure a spot at the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
