Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club have officially terminated the contract of head coach Rulani Mokwena following a disappointing run of results, despite having initially signed a deal that was set to run until 2027.
Mokwena, who joined the club in July 2024 with high expectations after his successful stint with South African side Mamelodi Sundowns, failed to meet the performance standards set by the Casablanca-based club. His reign lasted just nine months.
During his time at the helm, Mokwena oversaw 35 matches across all competitions, recording 14 wins, 14 draws, and 7 defeats. While his side showed moments of promise, the lack of consistency and failure to mount a convincing challenge in both domestic and continental competitions ultimately led to his dismissal.
Wydad AC is expected to announce a new head coach in the coming days as the club looks to salvage its season and return to winning ways.
