Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has officially announced his resignation as President of the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B), citing his recent appointment as 2nd Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the increasing demands of his role as President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
In a heartfelt statement, Okraku noted that the growing responsibilities at both national and continental levels require his full dedication, making it challenging to serve effectively in all capacities.
“It has been a great honour to serve the region,” he said, adding that the need to give his utmost best in every role necessitates his decision to step aside. “In the next few days, I will commence the process of handing over my role as WAFU Zone B President to a new leader who, I am sure, will continue the good work we have started in the group; including maintaining the peace we are experiencing in the Zone while continuing to work to build unity within the region.”
Okraku’s leadership at WAFU B was marked by key achievements in development, cooperation, and regional integration. His tenure included the successful relocation of the Zone’s permanent Secretariat and the rollout of strategic reforms aimed at strengthening collaboration among member associations. He played a pivotal role in elevating WAFU B’s influence within African football governance structures.
He also extended his gratitude to the staff at WAFU B’s Headquarters for their dedication and service: “As I leave the role of being your President, let me assure you that I will always remain a true disciple of the Zone.”
“Thank you for the awesome experience of leading the Zone, and I wish us all well in our future endeavours!” he concluded.
With Okraku’s departure, WAFU Zone B now prepares to usher in new leadership to continue its progress and uphold its vision for regional football development.
