The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is preparing to introduce a new official television broadcast partner for the Ghana Premier League, with the deal expected to begin with the 2025/26 season, according to media reports.

The upcoming agreement is reportedly valued at $2 million over a two-year period. This new partnership is timely, as the league currently operates without a broadcaster following the end of its previous deal with StarTimes Ghana.

The former broadcasting agreement, which also covered the FA Cup and the Women’s Premier League, was not extended due to unresolved financial issues. StarTimes is said to owe the GFA a total of $950,000, including an outstanding $180,000 owed to Premier League clubs.

Under the terms of the previous contract, each Premier League club was expected to receive $30,000 per season. While the company reportedly paid the first two instalments, it failed to honour the remaining payments, leading to the termination of the deal.

With the current 2024/25 season set to wrap up next month, the GFA is expected to make an official announcement on the new broadcaster soon. However, it is still uncertain whether the new agreement will extend to include coverage of the FA Cup and the Women’s Premier League.
