Russian giants Spartak Moscow have completed the signing of Ghana international Alexander Djiku, bringing an end to his spell at Fenerbahce.

The rock-solid Ghanaian defender joins Spartak Moscow from Fenerbahce, penning a two-year deal with the club. Having sealed the move, the 31-year-old centre-back is expected to play a huge role in the current campaign, considering his wealth of experience in the game.

Djiku joined Fenerbahce two seasons ago as a free agent after ending his spell with Strasbourg following the expiration of his contract. With just a year left on his contract, the tough-tackling Ghanaian defender has switched to join Spartak Moscow in Russia to continue his career.

The Black Stars centre-back established himself as a key member of Fenerbahce during his spell in Turkey. Last season, he featured consistently for the Turkish powerhouse under seasoned manager Jose Mourinho.

He made just an appearance in the current season after three matches before departing to join the Russian outfit.

Djiku, who has been a key figure for the Ghana national most recently scoring the match-winning goal in the Black Stars’ vital 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Mali now faces a new challenge in his career after switching Russian top flight.

The move marks another significant step in his career, following spells in France and Turkey, as he continues to compete at a high level in European football.

In the Turkish top-flight, Djiku made 51 appearances, scoring two goals and providing two assists across the period for Fenerbahce. In all competitions, the defender made 75 appearances, contributing four goals and delivering two assists.

Since his debut in 2020, Djiku has made 34 appearances for the Black Stars, scoring three goals.
