Former Hearts of Oak star Salifu Ibrahim has been dropped from Benin’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The 25-year-old midfielder, who recently switched nationality to represent the country of his father, was hoping to make his debut for the Squirrels at the continental showpiece.
However, his dreams have been dashed after failing to make head coach Gernot Rohr’s provisional 30-man list released on Wednesday.
Salifu earned his first call-up during the November international break but did not feature in any game. His exclusion means he will play no part in the 35th edition of the AFCON, which kicks off between December 2025 and January 2026.
Benin is drawn in Group D alongside DR Congo, Botswana, and Senegal as the 24 participating nations prepare to battle for Africa’s most prestigious football trophy.
