Medeama SC continued their strong title push with a 2-1 comeback win over Berekum Chelsea at the TnA Stadium on Sunday, extending their lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League table.
Their victory became even more important after second-placed Aduana FC were held to a goalless draw by Basake Holy Stars.
Berekum Chelsea shocked the league leaders early in the game when Faisal Shaibu scored in the 12th minute. Chelsea stayed organized throughout the first half and made it difficult for Medeama to find their rhythm.
After the break, Medeama returned with more energy and began to dominate. Their pressure finally paid off in the 57th minute when Jacob Amo Mensah headed in a well-placed cross, bringing the home side level and lifting the spirits of the supporters.
The comeback was completed in the 69th minute through a brilliant strike from Salim Adams. He fired a powerful shot from the edge of the box, beating goalkeeper Ofori Antwi and giving Medeama all three points.
The win sends Medeama two points clear at the top, strengthening their position as strong favourites in this season’s title race. They next face Bibiani Gold Stars in a Western derby.
For Berekum Chelsea, the defeat pushes them into the relegation zone. With only three wins so far this season, pressure continues to mount on head coach Samuel Boadu. Their next game against Hohoe United will be another must-win encounter.
