Brandon Thomas-Asante, the Coventry City forward, has expressed strong confidence in the Black Stars’ ability to make a competitive impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Following the official draw held in Washington on December 5, Ghana were placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. The tournament, to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded 48-team format, with Ghana earning one of Africa’s nine automatic qualification slots.

Thomas-Asante believes the Black Stars are well prepared for the challenge, pointing to the quality and hunger within the squad. He says the team’s focus is not just on participation but on competing strongly against the world’s best at the global showpiece.

The 2026 tournament will mark Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance, after previous outings in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. The country’s best performance remains the 2010 edition, where the Black Stars reached the quarterfinal stage.

Ghana is also scheduled to play a high-profile international friendly against Germany on March 30, 2026, as part of preparations for the tournament.

Thomas-Asante made his Black Stars debut in October 2024 and has since earned seven caps, scoring one goal. At club level, the former West Bromwich Albion attacker has been in fine form for Coventry City, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 17 appearances this season.

Although currently sidelined by injury, the 25-year-old remains focused on a strong comeback and hopes to secure a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
