Kwasi Appiah has declared a bold ambition to lead Sudan to the ultimate prize at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as the tournament kicks off in Morocco.
The Sudan head coach has made it clear that his team is not heading to the continental showpiece merely to make up the numbers. Instead, Appiah believes the Falcons of Jediane can compete strongly and challenge for the title if they approach the competition with belief, discipline, and the right mindset.
Sudan have been placed in a tough Group D alongside Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Equatorial Guinea. Despite the strength and reputation of their opponents, Appiah remains confident his side can hold their own, stressing that respect for opponents should not translate into fear or self-doubt.
Sudan will open their AFCON campaign against Algeria on Wednesday, December 24, at the Moulay Hassan Stadium. They will then face Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, December 28, at the Stade Mohammed V, before wrapping up the group stage against Burkina Faso on Wednesday, December 31, at the same venue.
The 2025 tournament marks Sudan’s return to Africa’s biggest football stage after their previous appearance in Cameroon, where they exited at the group phase. With renewed determination and leadership, Kwesi Appiah is aiming to guide the team beyond past disappointments and into genuine title contention.
