CF Montreal have extended Ghana international Prince Owusu’s stay at the club until the 2026, 2027 (sprint season) and 2027-2028 seasons, with options for the 2028-2029 and 2029-2030 seasons, using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).

The new deal keeps Owusu in Montréal through the 2026 and 2027 seasons, including the club’s 2027 spring campaign, as well as the 2027–28 season, with options that could extend his stay through 2029–30. The extension was completed using targeted allocation money, a clear signal of how central the 28-year-old has become to the club’s plans.

Trained at the VfB Stuttgart Academy, where he began his professional career with the reserve team in 2015, Owusu became only the fifth player in CF Montréal history to score 15 or more goals in a season in 2025.

“Prince’s contract extension is a continuation of what he has brought to the team since his arrival,” said Luca Saputo, Senior Director of Recruitment and Athletic Methodology for CF Montréal. “His accomplishments on the field reflect the leadership he demonstrates daily with his teammates. We are pleased that he is fully committed to our project.”

“Montreal has become a special place for me,” said Owusu. “Extending my contract with CF Montreal is a source of pride, and I thank the club’s sporting director for their confidence. I look forward to continuing this adventure with my teammates and seeing the fans again at Stade Saputo.”

Owusu declined his club option with Toronto FC and joined their 401 Derby rivals on Jan. 13, 2025, a move that has proven transformational for both player and club. After struggling to establish consistency in Toronto, the German-born forward found his footing almost immediately in Montréal, emerging as a reliable focal point of their attack, even if it didn’t always return points.

In his first season with CF Montréal, Owusu scored 17 goals across all competitions, including 13 in MLS play, two in the Canadian Championship and two in Leagues Cup. That return earned him the Giuseppe-Saputo Trophy as the club’s 2025 Most Valuable Player.

Owusu’s MLS output alone placed him among a select group in club history, as Owusu became just the fifth player to score 15 or more goals in a single season for CF Montréal. The production represented not only personal redemption but also a stark contrast with his former club. Since Owusu’s departure, Toronto FC have yet to replace that level of consistent goal scoring from the No. 9 position.

For Owusu, the decision to commit long-term reflects how settled he has become with the club. A product of the VfB Stuttgart academy, where he began his professional career in 2015.

On the international stage, Owusu represented Germany at the U15, U18 and U19 levels before being called up for the first time to the Ghana national team last month.

Ghana will play Panama at BMO Field in Group L action of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 17.
