Ghana’s Black Stars have begun 2026 on a steady note in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings, maintaining the same positions they closed out 2025 with.

In the rankings released on January 19, Ghana remain 72nd globally and 14th on the African continent.

The unchanged standings reflect a period of stability for the four-time African champions as they continue to rebuild and prepare for upcoming international commitments, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America.

Elsewhere on the continent, Morocco enjoyed a significant rise despite narrowly missing out on the Africa Cup of Nations title. The Atlas Lions climbed three places to eighth in the world, their highest-ever ranking and their first return to the global top ten since April 1998. Morocco’s ascent resulted in Belgium, Croatia and Germany each dropping one place.

AFCON champions Senegal also made a notable statement, surging seven places to 12th worldwide. The jump underscores their dominant continental campaign and represents a new personal best for the Teranga Lions in the FIFA rankings.

At the summit of world football, Spain continue to lead the global standings, with Argentina, France and England completing the top four, as the international landscape continues to evolve at the start of the new year.

The top 20 African nations now stand as follows:

  1. Morocco – 8
  2. Senegal – 12
  3. Nigeria – 26
  4. Algeria – 28
  5. Egypt – 31
  6. Ivory Coast – 37
  7. Cameroon – 45
  8. Tunisia – 47
  9. DR Congo – 48
  10. Mali – 54
  11. South Africa – 60
  12. Burkina Faso – 62
  13. Cape Verde – 67
  14. Ghana – 72
  15. Guinea – 80
  16. Gabon – 86
  17. Uganda – 88
  18. Angola – 89
  19. Zambia – 91
  20. Benin – 92

Looking ahead, the Black Stars are scheduled to regroup in March for a friendly clash against Germany in Stuttgart.
