Italian Serie A side Cagliari Calcio have completed the loan signing of Ghanaian midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana from Atalanta BC.
The loan deal, confirmed by Cagliari in an official announcement, runs until the end of the 2025/26 season and includes an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer.
Sulemana, 22, made the move back to Cagliari after an early termination of his season-long loan at Bologna FC 1909, where he struggled for regular playing time, managing just four appearances and 112 minutes of action across Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
The Ghanaian midfielder first joined Cagliari in the summer of 2023, signing from Hellas Verona for around €4 million. During that season, he became a key figure for the Rossoblu, making 24 appearances in all competitions and scoring two goals as the club secured their Serie A status.
Ghanaian midfielder made his professional debut in Serie A with Hellas Verona when he was only 19 years old. After totaling 17 games with the Scaligeri shirt, he was bought by Cagliari in the summer of 2023. On the island, he continued his growth path: he made his debut in the Rossoblù in the August 12 Coppa Italia match against Palermo, won 2-1; he was also a starter a few days later in the first away league game against Torino. In all, he will collect 24 appearances with two goals, making his substantial contribution to the achievement of the salvation goal.
In July 2024 he moved to Atalanta, with whom he played 10 matches and scored 2 goals in wins against Roma and Genoa. Last summer he moved on loan to the ranks of Bologna, where he played this first part of the season.
Pliable midfielder – can be deployed both as a halfback and as a winger – brings physical strength, running, dynamism. Good shot from distance, particularly valuable in interdiction with his innate ability to recover the ball and get the action going again immediately.
