Abdul Karim Zito and Asante Kotoko saw their MTN FA Cup title defence come to an end after a dramatic penalty shootout loss to Aduana FC, following a goalless draw in regulation time.
The defending champions were unable to find the breakthrough over 90 minutes, as both sides cancelled each other out in a tense and tightly fought contest. The match was eventually decided from the spot, where Aduana FC held their nerve to win 4–2 and seal qualification to the quarter-finals.
Speaking after the painful exit, head coach Abdul Karim Zito reflected on the situation, explaining that the team is still a work in progress. He noted that they are focused on gradual improvement, adding that, “We are building. If the fans are patient, fine. If they are not patient, whatever they do, we will take it like that.”
The result marks an early end to Asante Kotoko’s FA Cup journey, while Aduana FC advance with confidence and belief.
Aduana FC will now face Techiman Liberty Youth in the quarter-finals, as the MTN FA Cup continues to produce major upsets and talking points.
