Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Justice Blay has officially completed a move to Iraqi Premier League side Al Kadhimiya SC, signing a one-year contract that ushers in the next chapter of his professional career.
The 33-year-old Ghanaian, renowned for his technical skill, midfield vision, and ability to control the tempo of matches, arrives at Al Kadhimiya with extensive experience from both club and international football. Blay spent several seasons in Ghana’s top flight, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for Kotoko before exploring opportunities abroad.
Blay also has international experience with the Black Stars, making his debut against São Tomé and Príncipe during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. His inclusion in the national team reflected his consistent performances in the Ghana Premier League.
Blay’s journey with Kotoko began in the 2019/2020 season, when he joined on loan from Medeama SC. He quickly won over fans, scoring two goals in 12 appearances while delivering commanding performances in midfield. His influence convinced Kotoko to make the move permanent in 2021.
Over the next four years, Blay made 56 league appearances, often donning the captain’s armband, and played a crucial role in the club’s domestic league and cup campaigns. His leadership, consistency, and professionalism left a lasting impression on both teammates and supporters.
Blay officially parted ways with Kotoko in June last year, ending a memorable spell characterized by commitment, leadership, and high-level performances. His move to Al Kadhimiya SC now offers him a fresh challenge in the Iraqi Premier League, where he is expected to bring experience, tactical awareness, and midfield stability to his new side.
