Black Stars Technical Advisor Winfried Schaefer has singled out Hearts of Oak captain Benjamin Asare as the most impressive local player he has watched since taking up his role.

The German tactician has been touring Ghana Premier League venues, and one name stood above the rest .

The experienced German coach has consistently emphasized his commitment to monitoring the Ghana Premier League. Over the past two months, he has visited several match venues, interacting with local coaches and players as part of efforts to strengthen the Black Stars with domestic talent.

Schaefer was present over the weekend when Medeama secured a penalty shootout victory against Samartex to advance to the quarterfinals of the Ghana FA Cup, continuing his assessment of players within the local scene.

Speaking on Medeama FM, the former Cameroon coach and AFCON winner highlighted the importance of Ghana’s domestic league to the national team’s future.

He singled out Benjamin Asare for special recognition, stating that the Hearts of Oak shot-stopper has stood out among his peers.
According to Schaefer, Asare’s performances over the past two months have been exceptional, adding that the goalkeeper has shown qualities worthy of being considered among the top options for the Black Stars.

The German tactician also encouraged players competing in the Ghana Premier League to remain focused and committed, stressing that the pathway to the national team is open to those who consistently perform at a high level.

Schaefer’s remarks reinforce the significance of the local league as a key talent pipeline for the Black Stars, while further cementing Asare’s growing reputation in Ghanaian football.
