Dutch-Ghanaian winger Ernest Poku and English-Ghanaian defender Jarell Quansah were both on target as Bayer Leverkusen posted an emphatic 4-0 win against St. Pauli at the BayArena.
Quansah broke the deadlock on 13 minutes with a towering header from Poku’s teasing cross, setting the tone for a dominant home display. Just a minute later, Patrik Schick doubled the lead with another header, this time from a Lucas Vázquez delivery, as Leverkusen took full control before the break.
After half-time, Edmond Tapsoba made it 3-0 with yet another headed finish from an Aleix Garcia corner. Poku then capped his excellent performance by sliding home the fourth on 78 minutes from a Jonas Hofmann assist, having already been the most fouled player on the pitch with three infringements won.
In the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, Poku now has 19 appearances, 5 goals, and 4 assists, while Quansah has featured 18 times, scoring 2 goals with 0 assists.
Kasper Hjulmand’s side next face Olympiacos away in the Champions League knockout stage on Wednesday, 18 February, looking to carry this momentum into Europe.
