Manchester United have not yet reopened contract negotiations with English-Ghanaian midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, according to reports from The Sun, despite the youngster’s growing influence within the squad.

The 20-year-old reportedly declined an initial contract proposal more than a year ago during a period when his role at the club appeared uncertain. At the time, Mainoo had drifted to the fringes of the team under former manager Rúben Amorim and even considered a loan move before the Portuguese tactician’s departure.

Mainoo’s fortunes have since changed significantly following the appointment of Michael Carrick as head coach. The academy graduate has re-established himself as a central figure in midfield, earning consistent starts and emerging as one of the club’s most promising young talents.

His composure on the ball, tactical awareness, and maturity have made him a key component of United’s rebuilding project at Old Trafford.

Although fresh negotiations have yet to begin, Manchester United remain in a relatively secure position regarding Mainoo’s future. His current deal runs until 2027, with the club holding an option to extend it by an additional year until 2028.

That clause reduces immediate urgency but supporters are expected to push for swift action to secure the long-term future of one of the Premier League’s brightest emerging midfielders and avoid potential uncertainty surrounding his development trajectory.
