Ghanaian midfielder Aaron Essel has completed a transfer to USL side Sacramento Republic FC from Scottish Premiership club St Johnstone.
The 20-year-old will officially join the squad once league approval, his P-1 visa, and International Transfer Certificate are finalized. Republic FC head coach Neill Collins praised Essel’s energy, athleticism, and international experience, noting he will strengthen the team as they chase trophies this season.
Essel, who previously played on loan for MLS NEXT Pro side North Texas SC, made 17 appearances in 2025, scoring twice and registering one assist, while maintaining an 86% passing accuracy.
“I’m thrilled to join Republic FC. Sacramento has a passionate football culture, and I can’t wait to get on the field and give my all for the team and the supporters,” Essel said.
The former Bechem United star has also represented Ghana at senior level, making his debut against Nigeria in the Unity Cup in May 2025.
