Kocaelispor forward, Dan Agyei, expressed willingness to play for the Black Stars if called by head coach Otto Addo for upcoming international friendly matches ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The former Leyton Orient striker says he has always opened his doors to the Black Stars and hope he gets the opportunity anytime soon to represent the African World Cup qualification experts.
He asserted that, based on the turn of events in his career, he would be available to join the Black Stars, despite previously not receiving an invite after speaking to officials of the Ghanaian team back in 2018.
“It would be an honour to represent my country Ghana. I’m a proud Ghanaian and grew up watching the Black Stars,” Agyei, a former Oxford United striker told Sportsworldghana.com in an exclusive interview.
He added that “Ever since I spoke with former management back in 2018, I’ve been open and ready to play. I’ve always been keen to contribute and if the opportunity comes and I am called upon, I’d give everything for the shirt.”
Agyei has recorded four goals in 21 league matches for Turkish Süper Lig club Kocaelispor so far this season.
On 29 June 2023, Agyei signed for newly promoted League One club Leyton Orient on a two-year deal. He, However, on 27 June 2025, turned down a new contract at Leyton Orient to join newly-promoted Süper Lig side Kocaelispor, signing a two-year deal.
Austria will host Ghana in an international friendly at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium as part of the two countries’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Both countries have secured qualification for the quadrennial competition, scheduled for June in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
The Black Stars are paired with England, Croatia, and Panama in Group I, while Austria faces World Champions Argentina, Algeria, and Jordan in Group J.
The friendly against Austria is one of two matches lined up for the Black Stars in March ahead of the World Cup. Ghana will take on Germany in their second friendly on Monday, March 30, 2026. The clash against Austria is scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2026, at 17:00GMT
Ghana will open their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, in Toronto, followed by matches against England in Boston on June 23 and Croatia on June 27, 2026.
