“The quality of the Ghana Premier League has gone down drastically” – Mohammed Polo

Mohammed Polo has voiced strong criticism of the current standard of the Ghana Premier League, describing it as drastically below international expectations.

After watching the high-profile Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium, Polo said he was disappointed with the quality of play on display.

“Apart from Benjamin Asare, no Ghana Premier League player is quality enough to be at the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” Polo told Connect FM, singling out the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper as the only domestic player worthy of a Black Stars call-up.

He added, “The quality of the Ghana Premier League has gone down drastically. I watched the Super Clash recently and didn’t enjoy it because the players weren’t good enough. Despite Hearts of Oak receiving a red card, Asante Kotoko couldn’t create anything significant. It all comes down to quality.”

The Black Stars, preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, are drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. Head coach Otto Addo is expected to announce the final squad on June 1, with domestic players hoping to impress ahead of the tournament.
