Ibrahim Tanko, head coach of Medeama Sporting Club, has cautioned his players to remain fully focused and treat their upcoming MTN FA Cup quarterfinal clash against Attram De Visser with utmost seriousness.
The Yellow and Mauve will face the lower-division side at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday in what is expected to be a highly competitive encounter, as Medeama seek to secure a place in the semifinals of the prestigious domestic competition.
Speaking ahead of the crucial fixture, Tanko emphasized that his team is approaching the match with full determination and respect for their opponents, despite Medeama’s top-flight status and greater experience.
The Medeama coach noted that cup competitions often produce surprises, and therefore his players must avoid complacency and remain disciplined throughout the match.
Attram De Visser have impressed many observers with their performances in this season’s MTN FA Cup, eliminating several teams on their journey to the quarterfinal stage. Their strong run in the competition has convinced Tanko that the encounter will not be an easy one for his side.
Tanko also pointed out that he shares a good relationship with the leadership of Attram De Visser, particularly with the club’s founder, Kwame Attram, with whom he has previously worked during their time with the Ghana Under-23 national team setup.
Because of this familiarity and the quality the lower-division side has demonstrated so far in the competition, the Medeama coach believes the game demands full concentration from his players.
“No, I think like any other game and Attram de Visser is a very good team and Attram is my friend. We work together with the U23 and I don’t think we have to take the game lightly because and like I said we want to go to the next round so definitely we are approaching the game with all seriousness,” he told Medi TV.
Tanko stressed that Medeama’s primary objective is to progress to the next stage of the FA Cup, and he believes his team must combine experience, tactical discipline, and determination to overcome what he expects to be a resilient challenge from their opponents.
The FA Cup remains one of Ghana’s most prestigious domestic competitions, and Medeama are hoping to use the tournament as an opportunity to add another trophy to their history this season.
Sunday’s quarterfinal clash between Medeama and Attram De Visser will be officiated by referee Selorm Yao Bless, with both teams eager to secure victory and move one step closer to the FA Cup title.
